Studio Tour: Stephanie Armbruster

I had the chance to catch up with artist Stephanie Armbruster in her East End studio a couple weeks ago. She’s been there since last year but it was my first time over and I really enjoyed the new digs. Check out her space and see what she’s been up to:

She just finished this piece as I was putting this post together: “The History of Walls III: Selfie,” 54″x48″, Encaustic on panel, 2013

Stephanie manages to create some of these amazing pieces using a blend of heated wax, fire and paint. This method is referred to as encaustic painting. You might not be able to tell from the photos but the effect is pretty amazing.

She is shaving off some wax using a razor blade.

Visit Stephanie’s website and you can catch her work at these exhibits:

AAP 102 Annual Exhibition, Carnegie Museum of Art from April 20 – June 23, 2013

Three Rivers Arts Festival Juried Exhibition, 805/807 Liberty Avenue, 4th floor from June 7 – 16
